The S9 model heralds the future of race-proven comfort and has been designed based on an entirely new concept, itself developed from the ground up. Even after years of testing and reviews from other riders at the highest levels of the sport, Assos continues to see that even the most advanced method is only as good as the frame that supports it. Think of the tight corners you ride, the pedalling you do whether in the saddle or standing up, and think of all the hours spent repositioning your body that have a huge impact on your shorts along with the functionality of their inserts.

And finally, don't forget the comfort they provide. To address all these points, Assos have used their A-Lock Engineering, their brand new stabilising system that combines specially developed materials and methods to stabilise the shorts and keep the insert securely in place. Two inserts come into play in the S9 generation: the primary "butterfly" insert that fully hugs the legs and converges at the back to form our new ergoBox structure. This design effectively frames the insert and also impresses with an incredibly comfortable layer that wraps your legs and is made from Type.441 material, specifically designed for compressive support and silky-soft comfort.

After this step, they implemented their unique rollBar, which is inspired by the stabiliser of a race car, in that the straps act as a stabiliser for the insert as your weight shifts from left to right in the turns. Each beam is sewn directly into the hem above the insert to ensure that it is always under tension. The straps have also been redesigned using calibrated stretch, while the back has also been fitted with a single section of stretch fabric that has been folded over itself to form an A-shape at the back. To ensure an increased level of stability, it offers a short, vertical stretch.

On the front, a more flexible material has been used to create the fabric, which impresses with an antibacterial carbon fabric and in this way wicks away moisture and lies flat. Assos have also focused on a single insert that has evolved from the tried and tested Equipe Evo, giving Assos the freedom to rethink what is most important in an optimised insert for racing. Assos have reduced the overall footprint to save extra weight and then implemented super Air microShock foam with 3D waffle and their kraterCooler system to increase air exchange and have also taken further measures to fix the insert at the back with our patented horizontal stabiliser. The result? Assos' signature comfort, but stable like never before.

• A-Lock Engineering: The S9 racingFit system blends new materials and methods that work together to stabilise the shorts and keep the insert from slipping.
• Butterfly Pattern: The primary material insert hugs the back of the lumbar spine and legs and converges at the back. The reduced use of seams means more consistent support, less weight and improved comfort.
• Type.441: A patented 40-gauge circular knit created specifically for compressive support and silky-soft comfort. 200 g/m2, USF 50+, moisture-wicking (idroFil fastDry), iceColor, odorControl and extra durable.
• rollBar: Our unique design inspired by the stabiliser of a race car, in that the straps act as a stabiliser for use while your weight shifts from left to right in the turns.
• ergoBox: A square-shaped pattern that effectively frames the insert at the back for added stability.
• Carbon Xbib: A single section consisting of elastic material folded over itself to form a supportive A-shaped frame that provides a short vertical stretch at the back. A more flexible material has been used over the "X" junction, made from an anti-bacterial carbon fabric that wicks away moisture while lying flat at the front.
• zeroWaist: An open-edged welt with sealed seams, making it arguably the smoothest transition between body and fabric. More comfort, less pressure.
• Ultralight Leg Grippers: A lightweight silicone is woven into the leg gripper, so that the material does not push up even without exerting excessive pressure and the shorts stay in place.
• 30% fewer seams: Throughout the model, flatter and fewer seams were used, so that it is more comfortable and convinces with less total weight (180 g).
• mod.Dep S9 Basalt: Antibacterial microfibre top layer in a grey colour palette of 3D Basalt - a tribute to the lava stone that gives us strength, stability and courage.
• super Air microShock foam: A lightweight, open-cell foam made from a shock-absorbing compound that returns to its original position and fills the gap every time your riding position changes due to weight shift in the saddle.
• 3D waffle: A patented, three-layer, perforated foam that increases breathability and eliminates excess weight. Surface reduction: The base area of the insert has been reduced compared to other Equipe Evo designs in order to save excess weight.
• goldenGate: A patented process technology that interrupts the seams on the two lateral inserts, allowing for a more three-dimensional freedom of movement in this sensitive part that is always in motion.
• Horizontal Stabiliser: A patented, centrally located mesh that secures the back of the insert to the outer material, preventing slippage while riding.
• kraterCooler: A system of small holes at the front that promote air exchange so that the sensitive areas of your body are cooled.
