Merida was founded in 1972 by Ike Tseng with the aim of improving the reputation of the "Made in Taiwan" label. The three syllables of our name roughly mean: "The intention to make only beautiful and high quality products that allow everyone to reach their destination as comfortably as possible." Tseng subsequently gave bicycle production a new face. Today, Taiwan is considered the country with the best manufacturing know-how in the bicycle industry.
