Favourable bicycle baskets online in the bicycle basket shop

Nobody likes to be given a basket, unless it's for cycling or shopping. Bicycle baskets are a sensible alternative to bicycle bags or panniers, because they can also be used to transport shopping and even animals safely. Luggage stowed in a bicycle basket is always a better solution than hanging two heavy shopping bags on the left and right of the handlebars and snaking your way home. Whether mounted on the front of the handlebar or on the rear of the luggage rack, bicycle baskets are versatile: as a basket for shopping, as a luggage solution for a short trip to the nearest swimming pool or for transporting your four-legged friend. Whether groceries or swimming gear, towel and reading - bicycle baskets are ideal for anyone looking for a flexible and inexpensive luggage solution for the bike.

With a basket, the bicycle is a super means of transport

A Dutch bicycle looks almost naked without a bicycle basket at the back or front. Our Dutch neighbours have been showing us how it's done for years. For them, a bicycle is not only a means of transport and fitness equipment, but also a practical means of transport. With a Dutch bicycle, a bicycle basket is simply part of the package. Compared to bicycle bags, bicycle baskets offer the advantage that you can quickly put things in them and take them out again. A handlebar basket is ideal for transporting light objects. Handlebar baskets are so practical because you always have your luggage in view. Depending on the shape of the handlebars, the basket is attached to the handlebars either directly or via a special adapter. Since additional weight on the front of the bike is unfamiliar and can have a negative impact on handling, a handlebar-mounted bicycle basket is ideal for small purchases, for going to the bakery or for transporting smaller items. If the handlebar-mounted bicycle basket obscures the front lights, there are battery-powered lights that can be attached to the basket. Rear bike baskets are attached to the luggage carrier. They are suitable for transporting heavier loads.

The right material for every taste and use

The most common material for bicycle baskets - whether attached to the front of the handlebars or to the rear of the luggage rack - is metal. Metal baskets are usually coated to protect them from wind and weather. This is what makes metal bicycle baskets so robust and functional. Tightly meshed bicycle baskets prevent small items from falling out. However, if you only want to transport larger items of luggage anyway, a coarse-meshed bicycle basket is also sufficient and is usually cheaper than a fine-meshed bicycle basket. If you also want to use your bicycle basket as a shopping basket, you should make sure that the handle of the bicycle basket is ergonomically shaped or padded. Otherwise the handle will cut uncomfortably into your hand when carrying heavy loads. If a metal bicycle basket is too mundane for you, the trade also offers bicycle baskets made of willow, rattan, plastic mesh, tear-resistant polyester fabric and leather. Willow baskets may not be as functional as their metal counterparts, but they look better. Animals in particular feel more comfortable in wicker bicycle baskets, as the material does not cut into their paws as much. Willow bicycle baskets are available in open and closed designs, but they should not be left out in the rain for long periods of time, as the material could then be damaged.

For those who like it even more elegant, a bicycle basket made of leather or polyester fabric is the way to go. Admittedly, such bicycle baskets are considerably more expensive, but they are real eye-catchers and an ideal addition to a retro or Dutch bicycle.
