As the saying goes, you can't stand on one leg. Applied to bicycles, one could say that a bicycle cannot stand on two wheels alone. The third leg - the bicycle stand - is missing, so to speak, for parking.

A clever bicycle stand is irreplaceable

Whether you're a road cyclist or a mountain biker, you would never fit a bike stand to your bike, but for all bike owners who have to park their bike frequently, a clever bike stand is simply irreplaceable. Everyday bikes, i.e. usually touring bikes, trekking bikes, city bikes, children's bikes and Dutch bikes, are equipped with a bike stand. People who ride their bikes to the shops, to work or to the swimming pool don't want to have to lay their bikes down to park them, they want to park them properly. And not everywhere is there a place to lean your bike. On the contrary, in the city you often see signs saying "Bikes not allowed to lean". House owners don't want to have their freshly painted house walls or brand-new shop windows scratched, and bicycle owners don't want their bikes damaged when they are parked. A bicycle stand can remedy this, because the posture score has to be right too.

The right stand for every bike

Since not every bike stand fits or suits every bike, there are different designs: A distinction is made here between side stands or centre stands and bipod stands and rear stands

Rear stands are particularly suitable for bikes with derailleur gears

Rear stands are recommended for bikes with derailleur gears. Some frames are equipped with a double hole to which such a rear stand can be easily mounted. Modern rear stands can be flexibly adjusted in height without compromising stability. This is why many stands fit both 26-inch and 28-inch wheels. The flexible height adjustability is also particularly practical if you want to park the bike on an incline or on muddy or soft surfaces. When buying a bike stand, make sure that the stand's retaining clamps cannot scratch your bike's frame. Some manufacturers have solved this problem by covering the clamps with plastic. Furthermore, make sure that the base of the bicycle stand is as large as possible. This guarantees good stability even on uneven surfaces.

Side stands or centre stands can be mounted on almost all bikes. As the name suggests, they are not attached to the rear frame below the quick-release, but to the centre stand of the bike. Centre stands can also be adjusted in height flexibly or at the touch of a button. Some centre stands or side stands are only suitable for bikes with a stand plate on the centre stand, while others can be mounted regardless of whether a stand plate is present.

Bipod stands are particularly suitable for heavy loads

Bipod stands are often seen on Dutch bikes, retro bikes or bikes that have to carry heavy loads. For example, the non-motorised "service vehicles" of Deutsche Post are all equipped with bipod stands. They can withstand extremely high loads and ensure that the bike does not tip over even when fully loaded.

The aluminium mini stand for road bikes

A racing cyclist would rather drop dead than bolt a bike stand to his racing bike, but he doesn't always want to have to lay his bike down when he takes a break. For this customer group, the trade has come up with something new: a mini aluminium stand in pocket format. This little wonder can be slid onto the crank arm with a flick of the wrist and ensures that the bike stands securely. When folded, the part measures just 14.5 x 4 x 2.2 cm and weighs only 150 g. It can be mounted in a flash. Since it can be mounted in a flash, the manufacturer rightly calls it FlashStand.
